Windsor Curling Club

The Windsor Curling Club is trying to hook people on the sport by hosting free lessons.

Spokesperson Anne Banks says the club will host free lessons Monday and Friday nights for adults 20 and older. Ladies Night, Mondays, and Co-ed Night, Fridays, run from 7 to 9 p.m. throughout the fall.

Anyone interested can come and try curling before deciding whether to become a member of the Windsor Curling Club, Banks says.

Curling is so fun and relaxing it is hard not to get hooked. Banks adds, curling is a friendly sport and participants are not limited by age or ability. “It’s social… you get to know people. I know 200 people through curling and I find it hard to step into something. “We have tried to make (this experience) a relaxing and welcoming environment. And, I really think it’s one of the easiest sports to play.”

Darlene Page, Lakelands, and Liz Henheffer, Windsor, became members club last season.

It was a bit intimidating to try out at first, Henheffer says. “I did not know the sport and there were a lot of people there. Yet, they were all very friendly and supportive. “They encouraged me to keep coming back,” she adds, “ I’d encourage others to just come and join, and the rest will take care of itself.”

Page says just about anybody can curl and it is more social than any other sport. “People will often stay late; to help you pick up things.” The club makes individuals feel like part of a community, she adds. “Come try it out.”

Register for the free lessons by emailing membership.wcc@gmail.com or contacting Rae Winkelaar, at 792–1119.
