Graduates Whitney Neilson, Ali Cameron and Simon Watson organized a dinner June 23 in the Rossignol Cultural Centre's dining room, one filled with the splendor of polished wood, a fireplace and a twinkling chandelier overhead.
Cameron explained $7 from each meal purchased by students and teachers at the school went to their "backpack initiative," which is designed to fill school bags full of supplies for Queens Co. students in need.
Neilson said, "We wanted to go out to eat beforehand and thought this would be nice to do."
The Kinette and Kiwanis Liverpool and area clubs also donated to the cause.
This was the Social Justice Committee's first year at the school, one they used to primarily help Queens Co. residents although they did arrange World Vision's 30 Hour Famine at the school.
They also held food bank and loose change drives, to name just two other examples. They both wanted to thank teachers and mentors, Beth Woodford-Collins and Shelly Whynot.
Cameron said it was simply an opportunity, "to give back."
Raising funds for needy on Prom Night
Prom Night at Liverpool Regional High School is obviously a special evening offering memories for a lifetime. To members of the school's Social Justice Committee, however, it was a chance to help other students reach this milestone as well.
