CANADIAN FALLEN FIREFIGHTERS HONOURED

The Yarmouth Fire Department along with fire departments throughout Canada will honor their fallen firefighters with a ceremony at the monument in front of the Yarmouth fire station, Sunday, Sept. 14, beginning with the Canadian flag being lowered at 8 a.m. Fire apparatus will form up in front with flashing lights at 9:50 a.m, followed by uniformed firefighters at 10 a.m. Two minutes of silence will be observed as the Canadian flag is returned to full staff position. At 10:03 a.m. the Canadian and American national anthems will be played. Two wreaths will be placed at the foot of the monument by Deputy Chief John Wainwright, YFD and firefighter Hank Nickerson of Local 2094 International Association of Firefighters (I.A.F.F.) Retired YFD padre Father Clarence J. Thibeau will give the closing prayer followed by several hymns by a lone piper. DATE IN HISTORY

Sept. 10, 1971 a 7:23 a.m. fire involving the Hebron church kept the fire department busy for approximately 2 ½ hours. Water was pumped from a nearby lake as firefighters worked inside the church, preventing a spread and keeping the damage contained to the kitchen area.

YFD ANNUAL BANQUET

As the local election will take place on Saturday, Oct. 18 the annual banquet will be moved ahead one night, taking place at the fire station, Friday Oct. 17. More info will be available shortly.

NUISANCE ALARMS

If you have problems with nuisance alarms, do not disconnect your smoke alarm. Try another location or another model of alarm, but keep your home protected. Always be sure you understand why an alarm is sounding before treating the alarm as a nuisance.
