The Adult Day Program has expanded to North Queens Nursing Home, which leaves openings for participants and volunteers.

Adult Day Program coordinator, Kathleen Ramage said the program is for adults in the community who have mental or physical challenges associated with the aging process, such as Alzheimer’s. It gives participants a chance to socialize, while the caregivers have a little break, so to speak.

Ramage said they have “quite a lot of activities,” ranging from games and baking to walking and bowling.

She has noticed, although people are nervous when they first come in, “once they are here they just love it.”

The Adult Day Program runs at the Queens Manor Monday to Wednesday and on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The program has been taking place in North Queens 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each Thursday for about three weeks. Ramage hopes to expand it to two days per week.

Anyone with an interest in working with older adults plus a love for activities is asked to contact Kathleen Ramage at the Queens Manor. The number is 354-3451.

She is also looking for people interested in taking the program.

The Adult Day Program costs $5 for half a day and $10 for a full day, including dinner and snacks.
