He and a friend - both of who are from Queens Co. - were fishing at the site when their canoe overturned. RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Mark Gallagher said the second man, who is 53, managed to swim to shore and was in serious condition due to the cold temperature of the water. He was expected to be okay.

Sgt. Gallagher said the call came in at about 12:30 p.m. At about 2:30 p.m., a Department of Fisheries and Oceans boat crew pulled the fisherman out of the water. He was in critical condition. Medical personnel at the scene and at Queens General Hospital tried but couldn’t revive him.

Queens RCMP, EHS and DFO personnel and Liverpool volunteer firefighters responded. The fishing area is located deep in the woods near Milton.
