LETTER: West Hants not listening to constituents

The never-ending West Hants fire service debacle rages on.

I like to think of annual payments to a well-equipped and well-manned fire department as an insurance policy. For example, when I make payments on my health insurance policy I do not demand a detailed account of how my payment will be spent because I have the peace of mind knowing that if health problems arise, I am covered.

Compare this to the current arrangement between West Hants and the providers of fire protection that has been operating very successfully for 60 years.  When there is a fire in the West Hants area, a well-trained and dedicated group of men and women arrive and put the fire out. Whether a few thousand dollars were spent on new hoses or more training is the least of my concerns.

It is interesting to note that the Ivany Report addressing regional service structures states: "Development of strategy should be supported by appropriate public and stakeholder engagement.”

A recent poll of more than 600 folks in West Hants showed more than 85 per cent approval of the 60-year arrangement between the two parties.

Why are the five or six councillors who want to fix something that "ain't broke" not listening to We The People? And, why are they disregarding the well-received Ivany Report?

I agree also. Enough is enough. W.F.D. needs to be paid what is owed them. What if we as constituents refused to pay our taxes and demanded a break down of how every cent of our money was spent by West Hants Council. W.F.D. has always done an excellent job for us. The old firefighters who aren't with us anymore would be appalled to see what is going on here today. I'm sure a lot of us have a lot more we would like to say but we have to bite our tongues..From one of the unhappy peanuts from the "peanut gallery".

Are other volunteer fire departments required to submit and itemized account of every dollar spent, or is it only Windsor? Pay the money and step down Richard Dauphinee. Do the right thing!

Here Here! Agree with Ed from Falmouth. I would like the money I paid (that is being held) for these services, to be release to the WFD. It is becoming very sickening listening to the bickering back and forth. Grow up people and start working together. Listen to your constituents as we are the ones you are putting in jeopardy on the June 30 deadline.

Add my voice to those who agree that this is terrible and that the West Hants council needs to pay the WFD what is owed to them.. I view this as insurance as well, that they can't expect to be highly trained with appropriate equipment and only paid per call... West Hants council please pay the Windsor Fire Department!
