The Uniacke Heritage Society worked hard in promoting and handling the inclusive fishing derbies and they will be sadly missed if they are stopped.
Our Heritage Corner, put together by the heritage society, is a marker for our community. The walking trail they worked so hard on along Murphy Lake was once the "talk of the town" but it requires younger bodies and hands to love it as tenderly as the heritage society did.
The entrance to our village, near the tracks, was cleaned up several years ago by the heritage society and the question now is, "Who will keep it cleared?"
The heritage society's members grew old as the society grew old and with very few people joining as new members, it's hard to keep a group going.
They have done a lot of good work in our community that they can be proud of, but everyone burns out eventually.
Hopefully, once word gets around that the group is "retiring," there will be others who are inspired to handle the projects and work just as hard as this very dedicated group's members did over the last 20-plus years.
We can only put the offer out there and hope younger bodies and minds step forward.
