Avon View students had a chance to greet a major contributor to the breakfast program Wednesday, June 11.

Manager Johnny Kelly and dietician Meghan Dixon, both of the Windsor Market Atlantic Superstore, were on hand to meet students for breakfast.

“Avon View High is the sponsored school for Windsor market and the majority of the funding we receive is from the national initiative Breakfast for Learning,” explained Avon View’s principal, Peter Johnston.

Last week, Avon View held its annual art expo. This event is held each year to showcase the many talents of the AV fine arts students.

Music students, led by teacher Ted Woundy, played throughout the evening as beautiful graphic artwork was displayed. Some visual art from that evening is still hanging throughout the school and it is difficult to be modest about the talent of our students. Their work and amazing potential has been guided by art teachers Kelly Harnish and Donna MacMillan.

Exams are now under way until June 24. There is no school for students on June 25 or 26 as we all prepare for the big events to come.

Graduation ceremonies will be held on Friday, June 27. Students in Grade 10 and 11 return to school on Monday, June 30 for report cards. Parents are welcome to attend the closing assembly. Student achievement will also be recognized as teachers present top students with subject awards.

The senior prom will be held at the Hants County War Memorial Community Centre in Windsor on Tuesday, June 24. It has become a local tradition to come out and watch as students arrive in a wide variety of modes of transportation. The parade route starts at the old train station on Water Street and will make its way up Gerrish Street as our graduates travel to their final high school dance.  Come on out and enjoy the show!
