Grease has finally arrived in town. This is your chance to hum along to those familiar tunes as the students of Avon View High School breathe life into Sandy, Danny and the rest of the gang from Rydell High. Join us as performers dance and sing their way into your heart.

Performances will be held at Avon View High School, 225 Payzant Drive in Windsor, nightly from May 8-10. The show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults, and can be purchased at the door.

The Options and Opportunities (O2) program is providing service learning opportunities to Avon View students. Students are working under the direction of Greg Wile to assist the residents of Haliburton House, a wing at the Hants Community Hospital, with the creation of a garden. As they work to gain new skills and abilities for themselves, it is hoped they may also develop a sense of pride and compassion for those who benefit from their efforts. This is an example of real work and real results.

March 2015 may seem a long way off, but some events take a great deal of preparation and planning. If you can bear the wait, interested Avon View students will have the opportunity to “experience history where it happens, languages where they are spoken, and cultures as they are lived,” as explained by Belinda Snow, one of the AV 2015 Europe trip staff co-ordinators. Stops include Athens, Delphi and Rome with guided tours of Palermo and the Vatican, to name a few. What an opportunity! Any parents, relatives or students interested in this opportunity should contact the school and ask to speak with Snow or Anthony Lockhart.

In the more immediate future, academic and extra-curricular programs will race towards a finish line. AV’s Division 1 girls’ fastpitch team will be hosting the provincial high school championship June 6-7. Coach Kelly Harnish invites you to come out to the St. Croix ball field and cheer the AV girls on to victory.

Ted Woundy’s music students will perform at a spring concert on June 11. This annual event will also offer a student showcase of artwork. More details will follow in the coming weeks, but be sure to mark that date on your calendar.
