Falmouth businessman Stan Kochanoff is packing his bags and heading to Sochi, Russia to volunteer at the 2014 Winter Olympics.
This will be Kochanoff’s third time volunteering at such an event, having served as a volunteer at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and here in Nova Scotia at the Canada Winter Games in 2011.
Kochanoff will represent Canada and Nova Scotia as one of the 2,300 international volunteers (which is about eight per cent) of the total workforce of 28,000 volunteers. He will be working with the Olympic Village Administration Group in one of the three Olympic Villages for a total of five weeks, including a 10-day pre-Olympic training period.
He has not yet been able to find out if there are other Nova Scotians that may be a part of the international volunteer team. He’d appreciate hearing from others that might be going as well.
As the last surviving member of his family, Kochanoff plans to visit relatives and learn more about Bulgaria, the homeland of his parents, before returning home in early March.
While in Sochi, Kochanoff will be providing the Hants Journal with special reports regarding Olympic activities. Be sure to pick up a copy of the Journal to hear all about his experiences volunteering there.
