West Hants Warden Richard Dauphinee

The holiday season is a special time of year for families and friends to come together as well as a time for us to be thankful for a sense of community that others in the world can only dream of.

As we say farewell to 2013, I would like to take this opportunity to thank council and staff for their commitment and dedication throughout another year. Also, special thanks to our residents who volunteered their time and positive attitudes to help move West Hants forward and make it such a great place to live.

A special thank you to Dave Blanchard, our provincial volunteer for 2013, and Brooklyn Home Hardware, who was presented the West Hants Business Community Appreciation Award for all the work they do in the community. Volunteers are the backbone to successful communities and West Hants is grateful to have many tireless individuals willing to give their time and positive attitudes.

In 2013, West Hants council deliberated for many hours and was pleased to offer our residents a lower tax rate and yet did not have to lower the level of service that we provide on their behalf.

The Municipality of West Hants approved an Active Living Strategy and partnered with the Department of Health and Wellness to cost share in the Municipal Physical Activity Leadership Program to develop and implement a strategy with the intention of increasing participation in physical activity opportunities in our communities. This will now guide the work of our active living co-ordinator and the recreation department. A West Hants Trails Plan was approved by council and will guide the work of the municipality with respect to trail development.

I would like to extend sincere thanks to Mayor Paul Beazley, of the Town of Windsor, Mayor Robbie Zwicker, of the Town of Hantsport and their councils in continued efforts in making Hants County, our county, a wonderful place to live.

In closing, on behalf of council and staff of the Municipality of West Hants, I wish you and yours a joyous holiday season and the best of everything in 2014.

Richard Dauphinee,

Warden of West Hants
