Once again, I have taken a look at The Advances from 75 years ago.  I have chosen two articles and an ad for you this week.

The article I have chosen is the Beach Comber’s Column.  I don’t know who wrote these columns, nor do staff at the museum however, the writer nearly always seems spot on.  This time is no different.  Read on his/her opinions on Christmas spirit.

The next is some news from Port Mouton.  I chose the article because there are some familiar surnames that are still in the area and I thought perhaps locals may enjoy hearing what their grandparents and great grandparents were doing.  I’m very curious about this show with Flapper Fanny and the Verge brothers!

Last but not least is an ad that caught my eye.  A store called S.R. Forbes in Brooklyn boasts that they have gifts for all.  My question here is why are toilet sets at the top of the list?  Were these a new item?  Is a set a seat or a seat cover?  But also, why is this a highlighted item? The other items seem pretty normal: candy, ornaments, chocolate.

Do you remember this store?  Or do you remember Flapper Fanny? Email me at Brittany.verge@theadvance.ca or phone the Advance at 354-3441
