The July 18 ratings for fire conditions in western Nova Scotia counties is low after several damp days.

However, with a week of sunshine and dry weather in the forecast, conditions in the province's forests could change.

The  Department of Natural Resources' fire index map is updated each afternoon and shows "the potential level of wildfire intensity should one break out.

Camp and brush fires are not allowed after 8 a.m. during wildfire season. The ratings for July 17 showed burning was allowed between 2 p.m. and 8 a.m., subject to municipal bylaws.

Check the BurnSafe map at 2 p.m. daily for where and when fires are allowed.
