Halifax Regional Police say a Metro Transit bus driver has been attacked after he tried to break up a fight between two female individuals.
Police were called to the Dartmouth bridge terminal around 9:20 p.m. July 8 in relation to the assault.
Sgt. Greg Robertson says the driver saw two people fighting, and left his bus to try and break up the scuffle. That’s when Robertson says the driver was surrounded by a group of people, three of whom knocked him to the ground and began kicking him.
“It’s very unfortunate,” Robertson said. “Here he is trying to prevent an assault and he becomes the victim of one.”
Another bus driver phoned police, and the suspects fled the area.
Police say one of the suspects – an 18-year-old man – was arrested at around 11:15 p.m. and is due in court July 9 to face charges of assault causing bodily harm, breach of recognizance and possession of a controlled substance.
The 44-year-old driver was taken to the Dartmouth General Hospital to be treated for facial injuries.
