Pictou County RCMP are investigating the sudden death of a 66-year-old female near Marshville.
At approximately 8 p.m. May 16, RCMP responded to assist a person who was in distress while using a one-person inflatable dinghy.
The dinghy had been caught in the current of the changing tide and was being taken out into the Northumberland Strait.
With assistance from Emergency Health Services, River John Fire Department and the Canadian Coast Guard, rescue boats located the dinghy a short time later.
The woman from Moncton was found in the dinghy with no vital signs and was later pronounced dead at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow. The name of the deceased and details are being withheld, pending the notification of next of kin.
The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner's office is assisting.
