Updated: Premier's communications director placed on leave for 'domestic matter'

The premier's office issued an evening press release May 13 announcing that Kyley Harris, Stephen McNeil's director of communications, "has been placed on administrative leave with pay, after charges for a domestic matter"

The media release said the the charges had come to the attention of the office earlier in the day.

In response to media queries, Halifax Regional Police issued a statement confirming officers responded to a report of an assault  May 9 at a Halifax address.

"A 34-year-old Halifax man was subsequently arrested at a separate Halifax address that same evening and was released on a Promise to Appear in Halifax Provincial Court on June 18, 2014 to face a charge of assault."

Police did not release the man's name.
