A New Minas village commissioner is among those prepared to throw his hat in the ring for the vacant District 11 Kings County council seat.
Dale Pineo said he has a great deal of respect for the other declared candidates, Jim Winsor and Gary Connolly. Pineo plans to focus on his own record and contributions as a member of the community and village commission.
Pineo said he has a long history of commitment and hard work on behalf of the village. He said he’s familiar with many of the issues and Pineo feels he has been good at conflict resolution.
“I hope to make a contribution in improving the spirit of relations with the county and village and make it more amicable,” Pineo said. “In the spirit of the campaign itself, I intend to run a positive campaign.”
Pineo has served on the village commission for nearly eight years. He said on Feb. 4 he plans to officially announce Feb. 11 he is resigning from the seat so he can run for county council.
“I’m required to resign as village commissioner,” he said. “I’ll be making the announcement next Monday at the village commission meeting.”
Pineo said, if elected, his philosophy would be to first and foremost represent the people who elected him and the Village of New Minas. Pineo recognizes he’d have to serve the entire county as councillor, but he would vote and make decisions with the wellbeing of the village and its residents in mind.
Pineo said he realizes there could be more candidates once the official nomination day passes on Feb. 19 and he thinks it’s a positive sign for the district that there are so many people willing to run for council.
Pineo said he’s seen extraordinary commercial growth in New Minas over the past eight years he’s been on the village commission and it shows no sign of slowing down. He said the continued success and growth of the business sector is indicative of the good work the Village of New Minas does attracting and retaining investment.
