Town council discussed the lower attendance at the recent New Year’s levee at the Irving Centre.

Deputy David Mangle raised the issue on Jan. 8 and noted there were no representatives from Acadia University.

This year, “the lack of chowder was mentioned by more than a few,” Mangle noted.

CAO Diane Mombourquette told council that the event was advertised as always.

Coun. Dan Sparkman said he had a lovely time, but he would like to see some Acadia people there.

Mayor Jeff Cantwell said that there is no problem with the relationship between the town and university.

Coun. Carl Oldham suggested, “we can make it better next year.”

The first town levee was held in Centennial year 1993. For a number of years, the university held a levee too, then the two events were merged.
