Although it’s yet to be given final approval, county council’s committee of the whole has endorsed the proposed semi-annual work plan for Planning Services.
The number-one priority identified on the work plan, categorized as “complete as soon as possible,” is the so-called Exit 12 project in New Minas.
This is an initiative to review the possible re-development of land adjacent to Highway 101 Exit 12 for a mix of higher density commercial, residential and other land uses. To be coordinated with the Kings 2050 project, broader planning issues will be considered while aiming to fast-track amendments to enable the relocation of Kent Building Supplies where appropriate.
The Kings 2050 comprehensive planning project is categorized as a project needing “timely completion.”
The Coldbrook Property Options project has also been assigned this classification. This is an initiative to provide council with viable options regarding property at 2769 Lovett Road, recently returned to municipal ownership.
Under “complete as resources permit” is a project to examine commercial uses in a residential district in Aylesford for Rick Balsor. The request is to allow for auto sales in a mixed-use area designated as a residential district.
Others under this category include consideration for an on-site serviced community in Coldbrook; a project to review the land use bylaw requirements currently prohibiting the keeping of fowl in urban residential zones; a review of the Port Williams secondary planning strategy regarding sidewalk and streetlight policies; and numerous small housekeeping items.
Identified as a proposal to consider as part of the spring 2013 work plan is a signage study for the Grand Pré area, in light of its recent designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Council has sent a funding request for $25,000 for the project to the upcoming budget deliberation process.
Planning manager Ben Sivak said other new issues to consider for the next work plan include large-scale wind turbines and telecommunication towers. Sivak said he’d like the wind issue to be embedded in a larger energy discussion as part of Kings 2050.
