“Despite 10 years of promises from this Conservative government to deal with secondary roads, they continue to deteriorate,” says Conrad. “These roads are the gateways to small town Nova Scotia, they are the roads that are used by residents to get to and from work, the roads that are used to get our children to and from schools. Nova Scotians want to see a plan to deal with the roads they live on.”
Conrad says if there was a plan there would be a focus on how repairs are done.
“A perfect example is the Italy Cross Road in Queens, which has one lane with a 300 foot crack running its length with a patch of asphalt in the middle,” says Conrad. “Why is the Conservative government determined to use band-aid solutions for what all intents and purposes is a broken back? The truth is that the Minister and his Conservative government haven’t gotten the job done.”
Conrad also highlighted the Hirtle Road in Queens. She said the rut has been a fixture on this road so long that grass has become well established.
“When can the users of these roads expect a repair?” asks Conrad. “Failing that, can the residents of Hirtle Road at least have the assurance of some mowing?”

In the legislature Nov. 6, NDP Transportation Critic and MLA for Queens, Vicki Conrad, asked the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal, Murray Scott why the Conservative government, after 10 years, doesn’t have a plan to deal with secondary roads.
