Berwick fire chief shares summer call stats at August council

Berwick Fire Chief Laurie Saunders presented a summary of summer call reports at the Aug. 26 meeting of Berwick town council.

Between June 6 and June 21, Berwick and District members responded to two motor vehicle accidents in Berwick and South Berwick; to two commercial fire alarms and one grass fire in Berwick West.

Post tropical storm Arthur contributed to a busy July with the department responding to several storm-related calls between July 5 and 10. They included downed power lines at Bentley Road and Prospect Road in Rockland and on Rainforth Road in Berwick West and a transformer fire in Somerset.

Other July calls included a residential fire alarm at Dodge and Durling Road, a medical assist call in Windermere; a motor vehicle accident in Welsford; a passenger vehicle fire in Berwick and a commercial fire alarm in Berwick.

During the August reporting period the department responded to six calls. They included a medical assist north of Berwick; arcing power lines in Harbourville and a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of highways 360 and 221 in Welsford. In-town calls for service included bylaw enforcement to smoke conditions, a propane tank fire and a  residential alarm.
