A Darmouth man is in custody after an incident overnight in East Dalhousie.

Fifty-two-year-old Kris Ronald Watts is charged with using a firearm in a careless manner; possessing a firearm, a rifle, without holding the necessary licence; two counts of willfully damaging an individual's property to a value not exceeding $5,000 and possessing a weapon - a 30-30 rifle and a 30.06 rifle - for a purpose dangerous to the public peace.

At approximately 7:57 p.m. Aug. 28, RCMP from Kings District responded after witnesses reported hearing shots fired from within the cabin. The RCMP Emergency Response team was called in and, at approximately 1:40 a.m., Watts was taken into custody.

Kings RCMP spokeswoman Const. Kelli Gaudet said the man was apprehended outside of the cabin.

Watts was held overnight and appeared in Kentville court Aug. 29, where a video bail conference was held from Digby. He agreed to be held until a Sept. 2 show cause hearing.
