Long-time staffer named to environmental group’s top job

Levi Cliche at the 2014 Annapolis River Canoe Race. He takes over as executive director of Clean Annapolis River Project.

A long-time employee of Clean Annapolis River Project has just been named its executive director.

CARP’s board of directors said today Levi Cliche will be stepping into the position of executive director as the organization continues in its 24th year of operations.

Levi is no stranger to the organization, having initially started with CARP in 1998 as part of a youth employment program. After completing his diploma in Fish and Wildlife Technology at Flemming College, Lindsay, ON, he returned to CARP in 2002 to work on fish habitat and riparian habitat restoration projects.

Having worked on a variety of other projects over the years, in 2011 he assumed his most recent position as manager of program delivery. With this experience, Levi brings a wealth of knowledge to his new station.

From Nictaux

Hailing from Nictaux, he still calls this place home. His deeply rooted connection to the local watershed was formed early; he recalls memories of exploring the Nictaux River with his grandfather at the tender age of three.  Levi is continuing this tradition by encouraging his two daughters to explore and develop their own connections to the natural world.

“I am looking forward to the opportunity to take on a new role, while continuing to contribute back to the organization,” said Cliche. As a firm believer in CARP’s mission of restoring the ecological health of the Annapolis River watershed he sees CARP’s strong roots within the community as one of the organization’s greatest strengths.

Cliche looks forward to the opportunity to further develop and reinforce CARP’s bonds with community members and stakeholders, while working together to identify mutually beneficial ways of improving ecological health of the watershed.

Levi replaces Sarah Vascotto, whose position as interim executive director ends July 28, 2014.
