A Three Mile Plains man has been sentenced to five years in jail on sex-related charges involving an underage girl.
The 35-year-old, who cannot be named as it may identify the victim, pleaded guilty on June 2 to two counts of sexual assault; making child pornography and sexual touching. The man waived reading of the election address and elected provincial court. The matters were adjourned for sentencing.
Judge Alan Tufts sentenced the man to a total of five years in custody on the four charges on July 18. A lifetime Sex Offender Information Registration Act order has been imposed and the court granted a DNA order.
After pleading guilty to the four charges in June, the remaining charges the man was facing were adjourned for election and plea, a show cause hearing or disposition. These include inciting a young person the man was in a position of trust or authority toward and who was in a relationship of dependency with the man to touch his body with her hands, mouth and vagina for a sexual purpose; sexual assault, inciting a person under age 14 to touch his penis for a sexual purpose and touching a person under age 16 with his penis for a sexual purpose. These charges were withdrawn on July 18.
The man committed the offences in Three Mile Plains between Jan. 18, 2011 and March 24, 2013; in Moncton, New Brunswick, between Dec. 26 and 30, 2011 and in Port Aux Basques, Newfoundland and Labrador, between Aug. 11 and 18, 2012. The identity of the victim is protected by a publication ban.
