Dignitaries sit under the gaze of the spirit of Grand Pre - now protected by a sprinkler system.
Work to protect one of the most important symbols of Acadian life is now complete.
In 2009, Parks Canada undertook a project to better protect the historic Memorial Chapel at the Grand-Pré National Historic Site against fire by installing water mains, including a fire hydrant, near the chapel.
The second phase of the project was completed in spring 2014 with the installation of a sprinkler system in the Chapel. The Government of Canada invested $509,000 in the project's two phases to provide additional protection for this historical resource.
“This project by Parks Canada provides additional protection for one of the most evocative symbols of Acadian history, Grand-Pré’s Memorial Chapel. The Société Nationale de l’Acadie appreciates the importance the Government of Canada places on the protection of this iconic resource for the Acadian people,” said Justin Mury, vice-president of the Société Nationale de l’Acadie
