Kings District RCMP confirmed Monday morning that two teenage boys have been charged with arson after two Sunday afternoon fires in Aylesford.

The 17-year-old and 15-year-old are also charged with break and enter and theft.

Police and firefighters responded to a house and a barn on fire mid-afternoon April 27 on Highway 1 in the village. The boys were arrested nearby.

“A little after 2:30 we got called to an abandoned house fire,” Aylesford Fire Chief Shawn Carey said late Sunday afternoon.

“Probably 10 minutes later we had a call for a barn on fire about 500 feet down the road from the house.”

Both the barn and house were a complete loss, he said. In addition to knocking down the fires, crews concentrated on protecting neighbouring homes and a garage.

“We had a couple of really close exposures,” Carey said.
