Berwick has beefed up its free wireless network service with the addition of new access points.

The new access points have been mounted at the intersection of Cottage and Foster streets, Union and Foster streets and on Commercial Street across from the Berwick Baptist Church. Existing APs were repositioned to intersections along Commercial Street to facilitate expansion of the system.

With the new equipment, free Wi-Fi coverage is now available within most of the central commercial area and Rainforth Park, in addition to denser residential areas.

If approved by council, future expansion of the system will spread towards Maple Avenue, Orchard Street and the north end of Foster Street.

Along with the new access points, security cameras are now being installed at several locations in town. They include the public works building on Main Street and the town hall complex. A third camera, which will pan north and south, will be mounted on a traffic pole at the intersection of Commercial and Union streets.

It is sad that in 2014, you can access free internet if you live in a town, but not even 10 minutes away you have to deal with 0.41 Mbps as top speeds...
