Construction of Berwick’s only bus shelter will get underway as soon as the weather allows.
At the March 25 town council meeting, finance director Greg Towne confirmed the materials for the shelter, destroyed by fire last October, have been received.
“It’s now just a matter of the weather cooperating,” said Towne.
Harley Lawrence, 62, who had been living on the streets of Berwick for several months at the time of the fire, died in the blaze. His death is still under investigation by police.
Berwick also has plans for other enhancements in the downtown core with the addition of bike racks and benches. In her report to council, community development director Julie Glaser said, “benches have been ordered, and bike racks will be ready to be installed when the snow melts.”
She also noted Berwick school students have submitted artwork for selection in the next round of town banners.
