It looks like everyone went home from the Handbags for Habitat auction on Jan. 25 with a new-to-them handbag.

The Millett Centre in New Minas was full with over 220 participants.

“We had 224 bags donated this year,” said organizer Belinda Manning. “There were 16 brand new bags. We made a profit of $6,300 toward build costs primarily by auctioning off mainly second hand handbags.”

For the third annual auction, she added, “we had several men attend this year and bid on bags.”

Chrysalis House in Kentville also benefited because two handbags were donated and auctioned for the women’s shelter, as well as a quantity of ladies undergarments.
