Fined for evading police, recognizance offence

 

Leslie Arron Roy, 22, of Canaan, has been fined for failing to stop his vehicle as soon as was reasonable in the circumstances in order to evade police and for failing to comply with a recognizance by being in the company of someone under age 16.

Roy pleaded not guilty to the charges on Oct. 28. The matters were adjourned to Jan. 22 for trial, but Roy changed his pleas to guilty. Judge Alan Tufts fined Roy $460 for evading police and imposed a six-month discretionary driving prohibition against him. Roy was also fined $172.50 for failing to comply with his recognizance.

Roy committed the offences in New Minas between June 8 and 12, 2013.

 

Possessed dangerous weapon

 

Carson Lee Bezanson, 29, of North Kentville, has been handed a suspended sentence with probation for possessing a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace.

Bezanson originally pleaded not guilty to the charge, but Bezanson changed his plea to guilty Jan. 22. He was handed a suspended sentence with six months of probation and was ordered to forfeit the weapon.

Bezanson committed the offence in Kentville on June 11, 2013.

 

Resisted police

 

Roland Stacey Maskell, 39, of North Kentville, has been handed a suspended sentence with probation for willfully resisting a member of the Kentville Police engaged in the execution of his duty.

Maskell pleaded not guilty to the charge last May, but changed his plea to guilty on Jan. 23. He was handed a suspended sentence with nine months of probation.

Maskell committed the offence in Kentville on May 1, 2013.

 

Breathalyser offence

 

Alex Michael Whalen, 19, of Kentville, has been fined for operating a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit.

Whalen pleaded guilty to the charge on Jan. 20. Judge Alan Tufts fined Whalen $1,265, sentenced him to six months of probation and 10 hours of community service work. He is also banned from driving for one year.

Whalen committed the offence in Kentville on Oct. 19, 2013. The legal blood alcohol limit is 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. Whalen gave breathalyser readings of 190 and 170.

 

Probation, fine for assault

 

James Douglas Bonia, 53, of Kentville, has been sentenced to probation and fined for committing an assault.

Bonia pleaded guilty to the charge on Jan. 20. Judge Alan Tufts sentenced Bonia to 12 months of reporting probation and fined him $13.

Bonia committed the offence in Kentville on Dec. 20, 2013.

 

Stole from stores

 

Peter Brian Reid, 39, of Wolfville, has been sentenced to time served and probation for stealing property valued at less than $5,000 from Save Easy and for stealing property valued at less than $5,000 from Walmart.

Reid pleaded not guilty to the charges, but changed his pleas to guilty Jan. 22. He was sentenced to one day in custody deemed served and nine months of probation. Reid has been ordered to pay $93.80 in restitution to Walmart.

Reid committed the offences in Kentville on Jan. 28 and in New Minas on April 24, 2013.
