The court has issued an unendorsed warrant for a Canaan man facing sex charges who failed to appear for his sentencing hearing.

Prior to his scheduled trial on Nov. 27, Leslie Arron Roy, 22, changed his plea to guilty on a charge of sexual touching involving a person under age 16. He had pleaded not guilty last May to this charge and to charges of sexual assault and using a computer system to communicate with a person under the age of 16 to facilitate sexual interference.

The matters were adjourned to Jan. 15 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared. However, Roy did not appear for court.

Judge Claudine MacDonald granted a request from the defence to withdraw as counsel. The Crown sought an unendorsed warrant and a certificate of default for a $500 recognizance, both of which the court granted.

The charges stem from incidents alleged to have occurred in Canaan on June 16, 2012. A publication ban protects the identity of the complainant.
