Berwick chief operating officer Don Regan had hoped for a response from the provincial government on an application for a borrowing authority by the Alternate Resource Energy Authority by early December, but he has yet to receive it.
He said the fact the new Liberal government recently indicated its support for private energy projects was a positive nod for the development of AREA’s $25 million wind farm project, proposed for West Hants.
He acknowledges, however, that the partnership’s application still has to make its way through the government bureaucracy. AREA is a partnership between the towns of Berwick and Mahone Bay. Other members of the Municipal Electric Utilities of Nova Scotia Cooperative may join the authority in the future.
