Kings County residents urged to prepare for weekend storm

Kings Regional Emergency Management Office (REMO) is advising residents of Kings County to prepare for potential severe weather this weekend and to have emergency plans in place.


Environment Canada is predicting an extensive freezing rain event across mainland Nova Scotia on Dec. 22. Freezing rain is expected to start as early as 8 a.m., change to a mix of freezing rain and ice pellets by late afternoon and continue until early Monday morning.


The amount of freezing rain forecast has the potential to result in prolonged periods of power outages. Residents should ensure emergency kits are prepared including flashlights with fresh batteries. When using candles, ensure they are never left unattended and any use of cooking appliances or generators must be done outdoors.
