A former Port Williams man facing charges of sexual and indecent assault involving males will be back in court in January to enter pleas.

Jerry Howard Atwater, 72, now residing in New Minas, is charged with indecently assaulting a male person in Wolfville between June 1, 1980 and Sept. 1, 1981.

He is also charged with sexual assault involving a male and failing to comply with probation. These charges stem from incidents alleged to have occurred in Port Williams on July 23, 2013.

The accused was present in Kentville Provincial Court on Dec. 9. The matters were adjourned to Jan. 6, 2014 for election and plea.

During an Oct. 28 court appearance, reading of the indecent assault charge was waived. The court ordered Atwater to undergo a fitness assessment at the East Coast Forensic Hospital on an outpatient basis. However, the court cancelled the fitness assessment during an Oct. 30 court appearance after the request for an assessment was withdrawn by the accused.
