A pedestrian was struck at a crosswalk on Main Street in Liverpool at around 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 5.

The female pedestrian was treated by EHS at the site of the accident and taken to Queens General Hospital for minor injuries

The female driver was charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.  A fine of $685.21 was issued.

“The pedestrian had cleared the crosswalk and just unfortunately the driver struck her,” says Constable Andrew Winsor of the Queens RCMP.

Winsor says the crosswalks at the three-way stop on Main Street tend to be a bit of a problem area for both pedestrians and drivers.

“With drivers not always clearing the intersection, not always coming to a full stop and rolling through it as well as pedestrians not realizing that once a vehicle is in the intersection that they do have the right of way and they do have to yield to the vehicle,” says Winsor.

For this accident however, the driver was in the wrong.
