Berwick’s Commercial Street bus shelter, destroyed in an early morning fire Oct. 23, will be replaced in the near future.

There are no plans to move the structure to another location, Berwick council heard last week.

A petition had been circulated to move the shelter.

Instead, a concrete bench, donated in memory of 62-year-old Harley Lawrence, who had been living on the streets of Berwick and died in the fire, will be placed at the corner of Union and Commercial Streets on land donated by Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home.

Lawrence’s death is still under investigation by RCMP.
