The Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre in Waterville wants to raise a greenhouse, so the centre’s Apple Tree Foundation is going to present celebrity entrepreneur Pete Luckett as the keynote speaker for a special evening on Oct. 24.
Growing Opportunities is a dinner designed to take place at the Louis Millet Community Complex in New Minas.
Foundation chair Jeanne Douglas said the night will offer a three-course dinner presented by Frais Catering, along with an auction and raffle.
Following dinner, the owner of Pete’s and Luckett Vineyards will address the audience.
“Pete is such a well known personality in Nova Scotia and beyond; we’re so fortunate to have him lend his support to this endeavour,” said Douglas.
Proceeds from the event will go toward the proposed greenhouse, which will be built on the grounds of the centre.
Still in the planning stages, the 30 by 96-foot greenhouse will be a year-round operation for flowers and vegetables, providing employment and learning opportunities for centre residents.
“It going to be a very innovative undertaking,” said Douglas. “And one that Pete can very much appreciate, given his love of fresh produce.”
The foundation has committed $50,000 toward its development.
