Annapolis Valley Regional School Board superintendent Margo Tait said in her Sept. 4 report to the board that AVRSB Property Services staff had been busy since the end of school in June.
In addition to the usual “grounds maintenance, painting and extensive cleaning” at every Valley school, at least a couple of buildings have had major summer overhauls.
Some of the major projects included roof work at both Berwick and District School and Dwight Ross Elementary School in Greenwood.
A new student drop-off area was built at Brooklyn District Elementary, and the gymnasium floors refinished at Falmouth and District and Annapolis East Elementary.
The floor was replaced at Highbury Education Centre in New Minas, new dust collectors were installed at Coldbrook and District, Evangeline Middle School and Avon View, and new heating system controls installed at several schools.
In addition, major renovations have begun at two Valley schools. At Hantsport, phase one of a renovation project will include replacing the main electrical service, a new main sewer line, repairs to the foundation and new exterior wall panels.
Renovations are also underway at Annapolis West Education Centre. The principals of these schools will be providing information and updates to their respective school communities as the renovations continue, the superintendent said.
