The Annapolis Valley Regional School Board confirmed at its Sept. 4 meeting several changes in the configuration of Valley schools.
Effective with the start of the current school year, Somerset and District and Cambridge and District Elementary became Grade P-5 schools.
The Grade 6 students from Somerset and Cambridge have moved to Central Kings Rural High, which became a Grade 6-12 school.
Berwick and District School is now a Grade P-8 school, with the Grade 9 students moving to West Kings District High.
As well, from now on, all Berwick graduates will move on to attend West Kings in Grade 9. Formerly, Berwick students moved on to either West Kings or Central Kings depending on where in the town they lived.
According to AVRSB superintendent Margo Tait, “transition plans were in place during the 2012-2013 school year to prepare for these changes. We are confident students will be welcomed and well-served in their new schools.”
