Jailed for fraud

A Windsor man has received a jail term for fraud.

Kevin Douglas Sampson, 33, pleaded guilty in Windsor provincial court Friday, Dec. 19, to defrauding a person by putting an empty-envelop deposit into the victim’s account.

Judge Claudine MacDonald sentenced Sampson to three months custody for the conviction, to be served concurrently with any others.

Sampson committed the fraud in Windsor between Aug. 8 and 12.

Fined for resisting

Vaughan resident Neil Bronson Oulton, 32, pleaded guilty Dec. 19 to assault with intent to resist arrest.

Judge MacDonald fined Oulton $300 plus a $45 victim surcharge, or five days in custody on willful default.

The court dismissed a number of other charges related to the incident.

Oulton committed the offense in Hantsport April 3.

Fined for driving impaired

Martock resident Wayne Ernest Redden, 52, pleaded guilty Monday, Dec. 22, to driving while impaired by alcoholic beverages or drugs.

Judge Alan Tufts fined Redden $650 plus a $97.50 victim surcharge, or 11 days in custody on willful default.

The judge also prohibited Redden from driving in Canada for a year, a ban the Nova Scotia Registry of Motor Vehicles will at least match.

Redden committed the offense in Windsor March 30.

Really sped

Judge Tufts fined lower Sackville resident Corey J. Mitchell, 27, $250 plus a $37.50 victim surcharge and $107 costs for driving more than 31 kilometres per hour in excess of the posted speed limit, contrary to the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicles Act (MVA).

The judge also suspended Mitchell’s license between Dec. 22 and 29.

Mitchell committed the offense on highway 101 near Exit 4 Nov. 5 and pleaded guilty to the charge. He had requested a remission of penalty, which the judge did not grant.

Convicted automatically

Judge Tufts automatically convicted Wilmot, Annapolis County, resident Shannon Lee Newhook, 24, of driving between one and 15 kilometres per hour in excess of the posted limit, contrary to the MVA, and fined the accused $100 plus a $15 victim surcharge and $107 costs.

Police laid the charge on Highway 101 near Mount Uniacke Oct. 18
