Custody for CSO breaches
Two unlawful drinking bouts have earned an Aylesford man a suspension of his conditional sentence order (CSO), resulting in time in jail.
Zack Ray Hiscoe, 20, admitted in Kentville provincial court Monday, Sept. 29 to two breaches of his Feb. 6 one-year CSO.
Judge Claudine MacDonald suspended the CSO for 30 days, during which Hiscoe will be held in custody.
Hiscoe breached the CSO alcoholic consumption conditions in Aylesford Sept. 18 and in Torbrook Sept. 20. The court had imposed the CSO for a conviction of assault causing bodily harm.
Drove with high readings
Brooklyn, Hants County resident Andrew Paul Taylor, 26, pleaded guilty Sept. 29 to driving while his blood-alcohol readings exceeded the legal limit.
Judge MacDonald fined Taylor $1,200 plus as $180 victim surcharge, or 21 days in custody on willful default, and prohibited him from driving in Canada for a year.
The Nova Scotia Registry of Motor Vehicles will ban Taylor from driving in the province for at least a year.
Taylor committed the offense in Lockhartville July 24 when police found he had blood-alcohol readings of 160 and 160 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 mg/100 ml.
Illegal blood-alcohol levels
New Minas resident Timothy Kyle Huxter, 19, pleaded guilty Sept. 29 to driving while his blood-alcohol readings exceeded the 80 mg/100 ml legal limit.
Judge MacDonald fined Huxter $1,000 plus a $150 victim surcharge, or 17 days in custody on willful default, and banned him from driving in Canada for a year.
The Registry of Motor Vehicles will at least match the driving ban.
Huxter committed the offense in Waterville June 14 when police found he had blood-alcohol readings of 130 and 120 mg/100 ml.
Had care and control
Judge Alan Tufts found New Minas resident Susan Carol Marshall, 50, guilty Wednesday, Sept. 24 of having care and control of a motor vehicle while her blood alcohol readings exceeded the 80 mg/100 ml legal limit.
The judge fined Marshall $700 plus a $105 victim surcharge, or 12 days in custody on willful default, and prohibited her from driving in Canada for a year, a ban the Registry of Motor Vehicles will at least match.
Marshall committed the offense in Kentville Feb. 23 when police found she had blood-alcohol readings of 180 and 170 mg/100 millilitres of blood.
Fine, probation, restitution for theft
Judge Anne Crawford found Canning resident Jonathan Bureau, 28, guilty Thursday, Sept. 25, of theft of property valued at less than $5,000.
Crawford fined Bureau $200 or three days in custody, imposed a term of one-year probation on him, and ordered him to pay $858.94 in restitution jointly and severally with others.
Bureau committed the theft in New Minas June 28.
Fined for assault
Judge Tufts found South Alton resident Hubert Max Shaffer, 70, guilty of assault Sept. 24 and fined him $200 plus a $30 victim surcharge, or three days in custody on willful default.
Shafer committed the assault at Aylesford Lake Jan. 25.
Drove while privilege revoked
New Minas resident George Loran Lewis, 37, pleaded guilty Sept. 24 to driving while his privilege of obtaining a license was revoked, contrary to the MVA.
Judge Tufts fined Lewis $600.
Lewis committed the offense in Wolfville March 14.
Court no-show
Bishopville resident David Todd McLellan, 32, pleaded guilty Sept. 24 to failing to attend court as ordered.
Judge Tufts fined McLellan $50 plus a $7.50 victim surcharge.
McLellan committed the offense in Kentville March 3.
Convicted automatically
Judge Tufts convicted automatically Kentville resident Shelly Lee Viner, 38, Monday, Sept. 22, of driving while her privilege of obtaining a license was revoked, contrary to the MVA, and fined her $1,000 plus a $150 plus $107 in costs.
Police laid the charge on Highway 1 near Wolfville July 31.
Granted conditional discharges
Judge Tufts granted a conditional discharge to Kentville resident Quinton Wesley Mahar, 31, Sept. 24 on a charge of theft.
The discharge is pending six months of reporting probation, a condition of which is to take any recommended assessment, counselling or treatment.
The charge resulted from an incident at a Kentville convenience store Sept. 10. Mahar pleaded guilty to the charge at his Sept. 24 court appearance.

Judge MacDonald granted a conditional discharge Sept. 24 to Kentville resident Robert Larry Sanford, 41, on charges of assault and threatening to cause death or bodily harm.
The discharge is pending six months’ reporting probation, conditions of which include having no contact with the victim and continuing a counselling regimen.
The charges stemmed from incidents in Kentville April 21 and May 5. Sanford pleaded guilty to the charges Aug. 5.
Struck automatic conviction
Judge Crawford Sept. 25 struck the Sept. 22 automatic conviction of Halifax resident Arthur Mortley, 38, on a charge of driving while suspended, contrary to the MVA.
