House arrest for thefts, breach
A Look-Off man has received a house arrest sentence for thefts and a breach.
In Kentville provincial court Sept. 3, Judge Alan Tufts imposed a one-year conditional sentence order (CSO) on Caleb Quentin James Gillespie, 22, of theft from a transport company; theft of property valued at less than $5,000; break, entry and theft and committing indictable theft; and failing to comply with an undertaking curfew.
The CSO involves house arrest, with the usual exceptions.
The judge also ordered Gillespie to pay $2,651.24 in restitution to the transport company.
Gillespie committed the theft at the transport company in Kentville May 21, 2007; the theft under $5,000 June 10, 2007; the break-in and theft into a storage bin, Aug. 26, 2007, and the undertaking breach Feb. 19, 2008.
He pleaded guilty to the charges April 2 and May 14.
CSO suspended
Welton’s Corner resident John Leroy Jones, 38, admitted Sept. 3 to breaching his conditional sentence order.
Judge Claudine MacDonald suspended the CSO for 60 days, putting Jones in custody. The suspension was a joint recommendation from Crown prosecutor Michael Mackenzie and defense counsel Brian Vardigans.
Jones committed the breach at the Berwick Gala Days fireworks Aug. 31, when he was supposed to be under house arrest.
The court imposed the two-year CSO May 7 for drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The judge fined Kinsman $50 plus a $7.50 victim surcharge and $107 costs.
Kinsman committed the offense in Kentville Feb. 23.
