Spray paint vandals, copper thieves cap week

The Annapolis detachment of the RCMP responded to 123 calls for assistance during the week of July 20 through July 28. Among these were seven false alarms, 12 false 911s, 15 traffic incidents and eight domestic matters. (Note: Due to the sensitive natural of complaints involving sexual assault, domestic violence, children’s welfare, and mental health, not all calls are considered appropriate for publication.)

Following are highlights of these calls: -- July 20 at 6:11 p.m. A West Inglisville resident reported that during the night, someone damaged a mailbox. -- July 20 at 7:39 p.m. Highway 101 near Middleton. A report of an erratic driver resulted in a police check. Driver distraction was deemed to be the cause of the incident. -- July 20 at 8:23 p.m. A Lequille property owner reported a break and enter into a residence. A quantity of copper pipe was stolen and the house sustained water damage. The investigation continues. -- July 21 at 1:24 a.m. Police were called to Kejimkujik National Park to assist staff in dealing with illegal campers. The individuals left the park without incident. -- July 21 at 9 a.m. A caller reported that two buses were vandalized in Bridgetown, someone had spray-painted obscenities over the vehicles during the night. -- July 21 at 12:20 p.m. A Wilmot business owner reported that vandals had changed the wording on a display sign to convey an inappropriate message. -- July 22 at 9:22 a.m. Police received a report of vandalism to town property in Bridgetown. Someone had spray-painted graffiti on the boat at Jubilee Park. -- July 22 at 10:22 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver in Bridgetown. A police check discovered driver error was caused by inattention. -- July 23 at 00:17 a.m. A report of someone screaming in Middleton results in a patrol to a residence where police discover an intoxicated female in distress. A friend was called to intervene. -- July 23 at 10:19 a.m. A Lequille business owner reported a break and enter. The suspect appears to have been looking for money, and left without taking anything. The matter remains under investigation. -- July 24 at 6:57 a.m. Police were called to a dispute in Melvern Square. Two males were arrested and one male is facing charges. A subsequent investigation resulted in the recovery of stolen property. -- July 24 at 11:09 p.m. The report of a suspicious vehicle in Meadowvale resulted in a patrol. The driver was dropping off a vehicle for repair at a local repair shop. -- July 25 at 9:25 a.m. A Bear River business reported a break and enter. Nothing appears to have been stolen, but the suspect vandalized the business with graffiti. The matter remains under investigation. -- July 25 at 8:10 Police were called to Brickton after a resident discovers 12 solar lights missing. -- July 25 at 8 p.m. A Carlton Corner resident returned home to find a broken window. -- July 25 at 9:31 p.m. A noise complaint in Nictaux resulted in a patrol to a residence. The disturbance was dealt with and the matter resolved. -- July 25 at 11:26 p.m. A disturbance call in Cornwallis resulted in a patrol dispatched to deal with a loud party. -- July 25 at 11:32 p.m. Police were called to Kejimkujik to deal with noncompliant campers. -- July 25 at 11:36 p.m. A disturbance complaint in Nictaux resulted in police subduing a loud party. -- July 26 at 1:23 p.m. Police discovered an intoxicated youth in Middleton. The youth was held in cells overnight and released to parents in the morning. -- July 27 at 00:10 A police check of a vehicle in Bridgetown resulted in the arrest of an impaired driver, whom failed the breathalyzer and is facing charges. -- July 27 at 6:49 a.m. Wayward horses in Allains Creek resulted in a police patrol for round-up. -- July 27 at 2:59 p.m. Police were called to a two-vehicle accident at Maitland Bridge. No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were damaged but drivable. -- July 27 at 8:39 p.m. A concerned citizen contacted police after seeing a bonfire in Melvern Square. A patrol was made and found that the fire was being attended. The provincial ban was not in effect.
