Motor vehicle crashes, fires keep firefighters active

Last week was a busy time for Kentville firefighters as their department averaged more than two calls per day for the period between Friday afternoon, July 11, and Friday afternoon, July 18.

Chief Shawn Ripley said his department responded to a two-vehicle collision in Steam Mill Friday, July 11, at suppertime. One person suffered undetermined injuries and firefighters had to clean up a small fluid spill.

Kentville was called twice in mutual aid to assist the Waterville and District Fire Department Saturday, July 12, as that department dealt with two separate house fires. Canning and New Minas firefighters responded in mutual aid to Waterville Saturday.

Kentville firefighters responded to a burning complaint on Saturday night, July 12. Ripley said someone lit a fire that had to be extinguished.

Kentville responded to three brush fire calls Sunday night, July 13, one on Mee Road, one on Gracie Drive and one on Prospect Road in North Alton.

Kentville firefighters responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Exhibition and Cornwallis streets at 7:30 a.m July 13.

Kentville was called twice in mutual aid to Waterville Tuesday, July 15 in relation to the same structure fire. New Minas provided mutual aid in the form of stand-in assistance at the Kentville fire hall.

Kentville firefighters responded to a stove fire on Woodworth Road July 15. They dealt with another motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Exhibition and Cornwallis streets Wednesday, July 16. Ripley said there were injuries involved.

Kentville firefighters responded to a grass fire on the Aldershot Road the night of July 16. Some kids set a field on fire.

Kentville responded to a false alarm sounding on Churchill Avenue July 16. The department responded to another miscellaneous fire alarm call last week, as well.

New Minas Fire Chief James Redmond said his department responded to a structure fire at a business on Commercial Street Saturday, July 12. Kentville responded in mutual aid and Wolfville provided mutual aid in the form of stand-in assistance at the New Minas fire hall.

New Minas firefighters were called to help remove wasp nests from a building on Minas Crescent Monday, July 14.

New Minas firefighters responded to a call involving a smoke condition at Valley Denture Clinic July 15. However, Redmond said it turned out to be a high carbon monoxide (CO) level, 270 parts per million, which is really high. Kentville responded in mutual aid.

Canning Deputy Fire Chief Scott Cruickshank said his department responded to a call for medical assistance on Cavelle Avenue in Canning July 11.

Canning responded to a call about a power pole on fire on the Pereau Road in Pereau the afternoon of July 13.

Canning firefighters responded to calls for medical assistance on the Pereau Road in Blomidon the evening of July 14 and on Highway 221 in Habitant the evening of July 15.

Canning responded to what turned out to be a false fire alarm sounding on Cavelle Terrace, Canning, the afternoon of July 16.

Wolfville Fire Chief Tim MacLeod said his department responded to a building alarm sounding on Main Street at 7:40 a.m. July 15.
