FIRE SAFETY FOR GROUP HOMES

In group homes it is the staff's job both to guard against fire hazards and to teach residents to protect themselves in the event of fire. Following are rules that can be observed:

1. Enforce smoking rules

2. Check electrical equipment

3. Eliminate clutter

4. Maintain automatic sprinkler systems, smoke detectors, emergency lighting and alarms

5. Have fire extinguishers handy

6. Practice your escape, get out fast, know two ways out and meet outside

7. Crawl low under smoke

8. Test doors before opening them

And something that most young people are taught - "Stop, Drop and Roll" if your clothing catches fire.

RELIANCE VETERAN IN HOSPITAL

Veteran Art Spears, who has spent some time in the intensive care unit, has been moved to a room (at this time 311). Art, a veteran of Reliance Engine Co. #3, was the company captain at one time. Our wishes for a speedy recovery, Art.

DATE IN HISTORY

March 8, 2006 - A vacant home at 6 Willow St., was completely destroyed by fire. Engines 1 and 4 were quickly on scene, but the suspicious blaze was beyond saving. Time of the page was 12:56 p.m..

Danny Hennigar rolled both the high single - 144 and high triple - 366.

DRIVER TRAINING

The first of two sessions for members to be authorized drivers of fire vehicles was held on Saturday, Feb. 23.

Another course will take place early in March. Assistant Deputy Chief Blair Deveau, Platoon Chief Lynn Seeley and Captain Peter Poirier are instructing.
