A new four way stop in Berwick's downtown core goes live July 7.
The new traffic calming measure, approved by council last August, will address sightline issues and traffic volumes at the intersection of Cottage and Commercial Streets.
The town conducted a traffic study after local drivers reported poor visibility for drivers, especially for those trying to turn north or south onto Commercial from the west side of Cottage.
Signage alerting drivers and pedestrians to the coming change is now in place and flashing lights have been added to the Cottage Street stop signs.
Randy Sanford, owner of the Driftwood Restaurant, located at the busy intersection, welcomes the change. He is hopeful it will get drivers to reduce their speed in town.
“Something has to be done to improve safety,” he said while pointing out vehicles cruising past, many travelling above the 50 km/h speed limit.
