County of Kings animal control officer Darlene Millett receives the Don Shea Award from bylaw enforcement officer Terry Brown.

A County of Kings animal control officer has received an award from the Atlantic Bylaw Officers Association.

Darlene Millett is this year’s recipient of the Don Shea Officer of the Year Award. County of Kings bylaw enforcement officer Terry Brown presented the plaque to her prior to the June 17 committee of the whole session.

“Don Shea was a beautiful man. He welcomed me to the first association meeting I went to,” Millett, the association’s current executive treasurer, said. “This is truly an honour.”

Brown said the award was created in 2005 in memory of Shea, a bylaw enforcement officer in Dartmouth. He said three of the last four recipients have been from the County of Kings.

Millett has been with County of Kings Animal Control for 13 years.
