Digby RCMP Constable Darrell McNeil shows the bicycle that was left behind after someone stole an SUV from a driveway on Second Avenue in Digby on the weekend.

It wasn’t really a fair trade.

It appears someone stole a SUV on Second Avenue in Digby on the weekend and left behind a bicycle in its place.

Digby RCMP are asking the public for help with this case of vehicle theft.

Someone stole a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder from Second Avenue sometime between 8 p.m. May 24 and 11 a.m. May 25.

The owner had left the keys in the unlocked vehicle.

It appears the thief or thieves left a bicycle at the Second Avenue residence.

Digby RCMP Constable Darrell McNeil says they aren’t sure who owns the bike and they can’t rule out that it too may have been stolen.

The Pathfinder was later recovered at the Don Brown Memorial Ball Park in Digby.

The Digby RCMP ask anyone with information about this crime to call them at 245-2579 or contact Crimestoppers at 1-888-222-TIPS (8477) or visit the website at www.crimestopper.ns.ca

Cst. McNeil says people should secure their vehicles, take the keys out and hide valuables from plain sight.

“These target hardening tips may save you becoming victim to these crimes of opportunity,” he said.

Perhaps the" thief " was sending an environmental message...give up those SUV's...take a bike, or walk! and perhaps the SUV owner is just really forgetful ( the keys ) and parked elsewhere.
