Digby General Hospital’s emergency department will be closed this Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. due to physician unavailability.

ER closing 3 Wednesdays this month

The April 2 closure is one of three announced closures in April. Other closures are Wednesday, April 9, and Wednesday, April 30. All are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

People requiring emergency services during the hours of closure are advised to visit the nearest open emergency department or collaborative emergency centre.

A nurse practitioner is taking appointments twice weekly at the Digby Clinic in DGH for those without a family physician or primary care provider. For an appointment, telephone 245-2502, extension 3243

The public is reminded to dial 911 in the case of a health emergency as paramedics can administer live saving treatment during transport to hospital.

In non-emergency situations, call 811 to speak to a Registered Nurse 24 hours a day, seven days a week for advice. People experiencing a mental health issue can call the 24/7 mental health crisis line: 1-888-429-8167

Updated information on emergency department schedules and other news releases are on the South West Health website: www.swndha.nshealth.ca

This Is getting a bit ridiculous, from 10 am yesterday until noon, then from 1 til 3.30 we have tried me and my wife to speak to that practioner nurse at the Digby Hospital, we called the 245-2502, asked for extension 3243, no answer at all, we did try over 30 times, then I called the emergency, I got the answering machine and left my phone number to call me back. You think someone called me back What is going on with this, you call Monday, Wednesday and Friday to leave a message and no one answer, you call Tuesday and Thursday the days they are suppose to be there and they don't answer, so when is it they answer What a joke, as bad as that ferry in Yarmouth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EXCUSE ME, but I thought your "NEWSPAPER had mentioned that the "crisis" was over in Digby. I received an e-mail from South West Health Communications Resources stating that : this was your comment not theirs. so what is it this time that for 3 days again the Emergency Dept. will be close?? Oh I get it now, we do have a nurse that comes in on Tuesdays and Thursdays!!!! Did you ever try to call and get and an answer on Monday, Wednesday and Friday??? This is as bad as the Yarmouth Ferry ????

If rumours are to be believed (and in this case I think they're closer to reality than most) you need to call the SWNDHA head - Blaise McNeil, in Yarmouth, and ask him what is holding up the Medibus. Scuttlebutt on the streets says Mr. McNeil is the problem. Every other group involved is good to go with the Medibus but Mr. McNeil is apparently holding fast to the idea there is no problem in Digby. When you talk to him, you should also ask him about the doctors supposedly coming to Digby. It's easy to say there are doctors coming but why no names. I hope the Liberals keep their promise to deal with the health authorities; because, right now in Digby, it looks like our health authority doesn't give a damn about this area and only cares about its flagship hospital where the wait times are longer than Digby's!
