Princess of Acadia

Meeting postponed UPDATED Monday, March 24, 1 p.m.

Due to impending winter storm and high winds on Wednesday, March 26 the Digby and Area Board of Trade and Bay Ferries have re-scheduled the meeting aboard the Saint John--Digby ferry to Tuesday, April 1 at 12:30 pm aboard the Princess of Acadia.

The Bay Ferries senior executive team will present their operational plans for 2014, including this year’s scheduling and marketing strategies.

The next Digby and Area Board of Trade meeting will take place on a boat.

On T̶h̶u̶r̶s̶d̶a̶y̶,̶ ̶M̶a̶r̶c̶h̶ ̶2̶7̶,̶ the board will convene its meeting aboard the Princess of Acadia at 12:30 p.m.

“We like to move our meetings around,” said president Peter MacLellan. “This time it will be on board a vessel.”

The date was changed to accommodate an executive team from Bay Ferries, he said. There will be a tour of the venerable ferry and an opportunity for questions.

“We’re expecting the vice presidents of operations, finance and marketing,” MacLellan said. The firm’s new executive chef will even contribute.

As soon as The Princess of Acadia has unloaded at the terminal on Shore Road, he noted, proceedings will get underway.

MacLellan called the ferry a vital connection for the region, so the boards of trade in Clare and Annapolis have also been invited for  ̶M̶a̶r̶c̶h̶ ̶2̶7̶,̶

The ferry links Digby with the second largest urban district in the Maritimes. “Those markets are there for us,” he said, based on strong historical travel patterns.

The Princess of Acadia is 40 years old and due to be replaced with “new to us vessel,” MacLellan suggested.
